To Live...Discussion Points

Hey everyone, try filling in the blank here: To live is ___________. Be honest. What is it that you live for? There can be more than one thing. Give it a shot. Then, for each of the things you live for, fill in the next blank: To die is __________. How would your perspective on living affect your perspective of dying. I'll give an example to get everyone started:

To live is (1) mountain biking (2) having my own family (3) becoming a leader

If that is the case, to die is (1) unsure (2) a task master to keep me moving in that direction (3) leaving a legacy (that may die as well).

Give it a try. Paul said "For me, to live is Christ, to die is gain." In the context of the above, what does that really mean?...

Suicide BombingsDiscussion Points

Here is a good posting on the mindset of a suicide bomber. If you think about it, the bomber has to be so convinced of his or her afterlife that this life ceases to matter. Is that possible? The article talks of the material vs the spiritual lives where the one pulls down and the other releases, respectively.

As a parallel thought, the martyrs of Christianity had the same perspective: they were so convinced of the afterlife that this life ceased to matter. Yet, it was not them who deliberatly took their lives in order to attain paradise. Rather, it was their opposition that killed them.

So, the million dollar question is this: what is the proper balance between the concerns of this world and the anticipation of the next? As one acquaintance put it, "If we got rid of all idea of the afterlife, we humans could finally live in peace." Is this so?

Let's sound off on this. (Anyone can post comments - not just family. The login is to add new postings, not comments.)
